We Want Your Old Jewellery

This week I was approached by a young lady who had a parcel of Gold & Silver jewellery to sell.

“Do you buy this type of jewellery” she asked.

My reply was simple. “So long as it is legal and you have the authority to sell it I will buy it and what is more, we will at least match the highest price you get offered and pay you now. We will also buy any old costume jewellery that you have whatever the condition”.

The lady had been to a local jewellers on the high street who advertised that he buys unwanted gold & silver jewellery. He had offered £1420 for the two parcels of jewellery but had refused to buy the costume jewellery.

How much could I offer? Well, £1550. That was £1490 for the Gold & Silver and an extra £60 for the costume jewellery. Also, I visited the lady at her home where she felt more comfortable and relaxed. She was also able to talk about the jewellery and the sentimental value it held. Being comfotable and relaxed she was able to make a more informed decision. For example she was undecided on what to do with her mothers wedding ring. My advise was to keep it and use it but if she did want to sell it then use the money raised in a way her mother would have wanted. You can’t buy memories or the love of a mother.

I just love looking at other peoples old toys.

You get to see some fantastic items and every now and then real collectables come along. It is the history both social and real that fascinates me. When you see a threadbare teddy it means it has been loved and used as it should have been.

When you see a Dinky Toy that has been played with it has as much charm and appeal to me as one in a mint condition in a box. Why? because it takes me back to my childhood when at the age of seven I would set up my race track on the floor of my fathers office. The floor tiles were a drab brown Marley Tile which was great for whizzing the cars along but very cold on the knees.
